Jack has such an amazing teacher, Mrs. Schneider. I'm so grateful for super teachers! She has a very structured and very organized classroom. After the first week of school, I asked Jack how he was liking his teacher. He said, "I really like the way she runs her classroom." (cute!). He wrote in his school journal that he thought third grade was going to be his best year yet. One of his best friends, Gabriel, is in his class which makes it fun.
And, they get to do this awesome project making calendars as a class and selling them to the community to raise money for their sister island, Ometepe in Nicaragua. They help with things like scholarships, building libraries in their schools, funding ambulance drivers, etc. It's a project over 20 years old and each year this little third grade class usually raises between $8,000-$10,000! It's been really exciting for him. He talks about going to Ometepe all the time.
On the night before the first day of school, she asked me if she was supposed to be nervous. She wasn't, and wondered if that was okay. Unfortunately, she got sick after the second day of first grade and missed four days of school! Then, she was a little nervous because she felt a bit behind. She has been brave and her usual social self and is now in the full swing of things. Her teacher, Mrs. Upton, is also amazing, very sweet and loving with the kids. That always makes a mom feel better sending them away each morning!
